The cover’s tag with cleaning instructions is no longer legible. Do any of you guys know how to wash them?

Kinja'd!!!

On the web, I’ve found people stating that the instructions are:

W ash should be done in a commercial washing machine with no central agitator with cold water, 2 rinse cycles followed by air dry (Dryer will melt fabric.)

1. But what detergent do I use? One forum calls for Fantastik All Purpose Cleaner only. Other asks for Simple Green All Purpose cleaner.

2. Also, how in the hell do I air dry a big ass car cover?!

Easy peasy — commercial washer, delicate cycle, just use any “free and clear” detergent unless you want to smell funny.

Air dry it on the car. That’s the only safe way to do it -- you can always wash off the water spots later.

I use the lowest setting on my dryer, but not air dry. I have not melted my cover doing that.

And as Ash said, just use free and clear detergents.

There were times it was more important to get home from the camp site than wait for the sun to come up and dry out the tents (lots of dew in Louisiana). When we got home, w e would string  up a couple of ropes in the back yard between the tree and the fence, then draped the tents over them. It should work for a car cover.

Hmm ok.

The problem is, my underground garage is dusty as hell because of construction. If I dry it on the car where I park it, its going to get even more gross.

I live in Toronto in an apartment building.

I wish I could do that :(

I would think you could still dry it on a line, just inside. You don’t have to leave it up for long, just set it up for one day with a fan going to circulate air, it’ll dry overnight or at worst in 24 hours. This is how we dry all our big blankets and such, even if they could go in the dryer.

Hmm I might be able to dry it on the balcony....I’ll see what I can do.

How do I tell if Fantastik and/or Simple Green are “free and clear” detergents ?

Their labels don’t specify this...

Do those companies make detergents? I’m talking about the big jugs of liquid for the washing machine. Just look for anything that says “perfume and dye free”

HTH

Oh really? No need for any specialized shit?

The car cover is a mesh made from some sort of fabric/plasticky foam hybrid....

Just keep the temp low and the cycle delicate. 99% of all fabrics will be undamaged. It’s just a giant blanket :D
